Technology Transfer

Professional Committee Web Pages

Technology transfer is key to our mission of moving research in to practitioners hands.  One technology transfer role that WTI research staff perform is to serve on many professional committees.    As part of that service WTI hosts professional committee web pages to accelerate the dissemination of research findings and to assist our local, state and federal partners.

Program Overview

Technology transfer is a critical element of WTI's UTC program, because it is the mechanism whereby information on best practices, research results, etc., is shared across the transportation community. WTI has invested significantly in this endeavor and will continue to do so with the intent of accelerating the transfer of information into practice. The nature of the information to be disseminated is diverse, as is the target audience; thus, no single form of delivery is adequate for this purpose. Principal Investigators will prepare publications and presentations to be submitted to various journals, conferences, and meetings. WTI will further sponsor a variety of activities including short courses, workshops, and national and regional conferences. At a higher level, an initiative will be pursued to both “pull” information from members of the transportation community and “push” information to them. In the coming years, WTI will create an information clearinghouse specific to rural transportation issues that will catalog at a single location all types of rural transportation resources and research results in a timely and useful manner. Additionally, WTI will host a forum—a rural transportation blog—for transportation stakeholders to share and discuss information and issues. All of these technology transfer tools allow for the collection, dissemination and, more critically, the acceleration of information flow into practice in the transportation community.
